Zwelethu Mthethwa (b.1960, South Africa) in his photographs focus and scrutinises the concept of the new contemporary communities near big cities in South Africa, looking at identity, social values, geography and the psychology behind people.
Zwelethu Mthethwa work relationship with Marco Noire Contemporary Art stated in 1998 with a solo exhibition.
In 1999 they collaborated on a special project for ARCO-Madrid Project Room, now at the ARCO Foundation. Their collaboration also produced the video installations REBIRTH and anotherworld.
In 1999 Marco Noire published the first monograph of Zwelethu Mthethwa, with more than 50 unpublished photographs of the Artist, and in 2000 the catalogue Sacred Homes - Mother & Child.
