Since Melanie Smith arrived in Mexico from his native Great Britain has been investigating into the aesthetic of modernised.
She approaches to the appearance and clues referring to unequal economic and cultural relations with global contemporary art languages, from video to paintings and photographs.
Her ongoing series of works are based upon an interest for the city as a consumption site and a synthetic/anti aesthetic culture special to third world urban centres, where lifestyle comes secondary to existence.
With her art she creates a complex dialogue between abstraction and the spectacle of street commerce, depicting the tension between glamour and vulgarity.
