10 INSECTS TO FEED, 2006
3 screen video installation
The new video-installation 10 Insects to Feed reflects the desire to talk about the dominion of fear in the western society through a filmic process. A capitalistic society psychologically dominated by fear does generate mechanisms like: terrorism, illegal immigrant, seductive mechanisms, marketing, a pitiless sense of loneliness and disesteem. In this video-installation the world looks like dominated by a social panic. Insects-like beings churn themselves for escaping from an atrocious feeling of fear and loss: they escape without having the possibility to escape. They help each other and fight against each other, trying to escape from the pitiless judgment of a God that is everywhere (from the hamburgers mayonnaise to the chicken burrito). They escape as they feel themselves intercepted by military voices, that eternally have them under fire. They escape from an attack that does not exist, from a pitiless and aggressive social Super Ego.
Like all Masbedo’s videos, 10 Insects to Feed reveals a sharp existentialist feature. In particular in this work together with the aesthetic choice of using a 35 millimetres film with extreme colours (from acid colours to the nearly total absence of colour) an extreme cruelty is added.
10 Insects to Feed gets its name from the 10 insects that feed themselves with corpses and that we all will nourish before being transformed only in memories and bones. |
